Our History

For 50 years, Altamont Lutheran Care Center has been committed to a tradition of quality healthcare in an environment rich with caring, ministry and love. Follow along our timeline for milestone events throughout the history of Altamont Lutheran Care Center

1969

The facility that now houses Lutheran Care Center was originally built by Dr. D. G. Huelskoetter, M.D. in 1969. It was in December of 1969 when Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, a 92 bed skilled nursing facility was opened. The facility quickly acquired a reputation for quality skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services.

1975

Only six years after the facility had opened, there was a need for expansion to further enhance the care and services the nursing home provided. In 1975, construction of a new wing was completed. This addition included an increase in capacity to 96 skilled beds, a
larger physical therapy department, a beauty and barber shop, an enlarged activity area and meeting rooms.

1978

In 1978, the facility became accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (C.A.R.F.) and became known as Pleasant Acres Physical Rehabilitation Center. A year later it attained its Medicare certified status.

1980

During 1978, area Lutheran churches became interested in the ownership of the facility and established a not-for-profit corporation. On October 1, 1980 after having operated the facility for one year under a lease agreement with Dr. Huelskoetter, the Lutheran churches acquired ownership. It was then named Lutheran Care Center. To date, 18 area Lutheran churches own and support Lutheran Care Center.

1994

In the mid 1990's, Lutheran Care Center began its response to the changing needs of older adults. The vision of the Continuum of Retirement Care Community was born. In February of 1994, the opening of Luther Villas was celebrated. Luther Villas is a community of single family and duplex homes designed for maintenance-free living.

1997

The addition of Luther Terrace was completed in 1997. Luther Terrace is made up of 16 senior living apartments. The senior apartments provide a community-like atmosphere in the comforts of a home-like setting offering several accommodations.

2006

In 2006, yet another expansion occurred, the Lutheran Care Center Kids Enrichment Center. LCC Kids is a licensed childcare facility providing services to children 0 to 12 years of age.
