Charity Care

The Mission of Charity Care

It is the mission of Lutheran Care Center to promote the health and well being of the people in the communities that we serve. Lutheran Care Center is a faith-based facility that provides a comprehensive continuum of services regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, handicap, or age. We respect the medical needs of all people in our care and the financial concerns of those with limited resources.

Eligibility Guidelines

Lutheran Care Center understands that people with limited financial resources have the willingness to pay, but not always the ability to pay. Persons seeking financial assistance must request to complete a Financial Application to be considered for the Charity Care Program. Along with the application, information and documentation must be provided that all other alternative sources for financial assistance have been pursued, including private insurance and governmental agencies.

Charity care applies to the portion of the bill that is the individual’s responsibility, including co-payments and deductibles. Charity will be assigned using the most recently published federal poverty standards. In addition, other liquid assets, non-residential property, special circumstances and other factors are considered when approving charity care. Monthly maintenance charges, routine service charges, nursing care charges and non-rated charges may be waived in full, reduced in part, or liability for payment postponed based on the individual’s ability to pay and the corporation’s financial circumstances.

Income guidelines for eligibility are adjusted annually based on the Federal Poverty Guidelines established by the United States Department of Health and Human Services and published periodically in the Federal Register. These guidelines are subject to change without notice.

Applying for Charity Care

All persons applying for assistance will be treated fairly, with dignity, compassion and respect. Lutheran Care Center will allow a patient to apply for charity care at any point from pre-admission to final payment of the bill. If the change in financial status is temporary, Lutheran Care Center can choose to suspend payments temporarily rather than initiate charity care.
